We are taking it back to square one!
Learn the essentials of creating and sending emails that turn subscribers into buyers. I’ll show you how to build an email list from scratch.
The first thing we’re going to discuss today is, “What is Email Marketing?”
You’ve probably been on other peoples’ websites and noticed they are giving away something of value for free in exchange for your email address. This may be a quiz, a free guide, a downloadable pdf, etc. What they are giving away is called a lead magnet, which can also be called a freebie.
Essentially they are giving you something for free in exchange for your name and email address so you will get on their email list. Once this happens, they will periodically send you emails. Everyone’s email marketing campaigns and consistency may be on different schedules. They’re using these campaigns to market themselves and their business to you, and this lead magnet was the first step.
Many times after the lead magnet they may have what we call a nurture sequence. This is to nurture the relationship they have with you to build a better relationship. You might get emails over the next week on a more regular basis than you will once the nurture sequence has played out.
I personally have a nurture sequence that sends emails over the course of 30 days. The first couple of emails sends closer together, while the emails near the end are stretched out about a week from each other. Once the 30 days are over you start only receiving my normal weekly newsletter. This is email marketing.
Many times the emails will be more nurture-type emails where I try to build a stronger relationship with you by telling you more personal information about myself or sharing knowledge and expertise. It is important to remember as a part of email marketing, that you don’t just try and sell. The email list is not only for selling something but also for relationship building, sharing your knowledge and expertise to build that expert status, and creating that know, like, and trust factor. The people on your list will begin to know, like, and trust you, and as a result of this, do business with you.
In order to have an email list, you need a few things.
One thing is what we just went over, which is a lead magnet or something with value for free in exchange for an email address. Here is a list of lead magnet ideas: Grab your 20 Lead Magnet Ideas here.
Depending on what you choose, you will need a way to deliver it. For example, mine is a downloadable pdf. You can download it and read it on your phone, computer, and tablet or print it out. I use email marketing software to deliver this free lead magnet called Active Campaign. This is an email marketing software and autoresponder. When you put your name and email in on my site you automatically, no matter what time it is, receive the lead magnet I have promised. If it’s your first time signing up for one of my lead magnets, you will begin to receive my nurture sequence.
These are the pieces you need, first a lead magnet and then email marketing software. You don’t even need to have a website. You can use the landing pages you create in the email marketing software and share those to social media to have people sign up for your list.
So basically, all you need to get started is email marketing software and a lead magnet. It can sound overwhelming, but it really isn’t as complicated as it may seem at first. This was just an overview of the email marketing topic we will go into more detail in the following weeks.
Next week we will talk about how to put all of this together, along with a video to help show you in a little more detail how to begin email marketing in your business.
Thanks for dropping in today, and I hope to have you back next week!
