Lessons Learned

The Start of My Virtual Assistant Journey:

In the early days of my business, one of the first services I provided was as a ghostwriter. I enjoy sharing the amusing story that I wrote articles on everything from being a mom to men’s eyeglasses, which is quite a strange concept. The truth is, back then, probably at least 15 years ago, if not longer, article marketing was very popular. Writers created articles on various topics that businesses then used to promote themselves through links and similar methods. I would write articles on all kinds of topics, and often, I had to research to learn about subjects I wasn’t familiar with. You can see that when you niche down, it really means that you’re not limiting yourself but instead focusing your efforts so that you can grow stronger and stand out.

Discover Your Niche

You should ask yourself: What do people consistently seek your help for? What is something in which you already have skills? Maybe you’re a highly organized person, excelling at planning and organization. Perhaps you were like me; you were particularly strong as a writer. Maybe you are skilled at editing, and people call you the grammar Nazi. Whatever the case may be, it’s essential to determine what your audience is looking for so you can consider the skills you possess. Reflect on your experiences, natural gifts, and talents, and bring this all together to narrow down into a specific and crucial niche for you.

What Skills Do You Already Have?

What feels easy to you? It might hold value for someone else, and you need to keep that in mind. The things that come naturally and effortlessly to you may be something that another person finds extremely valuable and would be willing to pay for, as they do not come as easily to them.

Faith and Focus:

Equally important, consider the scripture from 1 Peter 4:10: ‘Each of you should use whatever gifts you have received to serve others.’ The motto I uphold in my business as a virtual assistant is to serve God and others well. Additionally, you should identify your ideal client: whom do you love to serve, and what kinds of problems are they facing? You possess skills that can help you solve problems for that person. Reflect on the type of personality with whom you connect well and the values you appreciate in your ideal client. Focus on their needs and goals. If you try to talk to everyone, you end up connecting with no one.

The Power of Serving Your Ideal Client

You must be very targeted and specific about your target market or ideal client, speaking directly to that person. By narrowing your focus, you won’t miss out on opportunities; instead, you’ll attract the right ones. When I focused on helping Christian authors, speakers, and coaches, I started connecting with the people who needed me the most. It’s essential to remember your niche, as it’s not set in stone; you can grow, and it can evolve and change along with you. Lean into your story, lean into your experiences, your natural strengths and talents, and let your personality and gifts set you apart. You do not have to be the loudest voice.

Taking Action: Blossom Where You’re Planted

You must be the authentic voice and always remain consistent. Be clear and personal, as that will make you memorable. I want to challenge you: What is one step you can take this week to serve your specific niche audience? And remember, I want to share this quote with you: “Progress over perfection. Growth comes from showing up over and over again.” So, remember to identify your skills, know whom you’re going to help, narrow your focus, and show up authentically if you’re ready to blossom where you’re planted. Start by embracing your unique path. Someone is waiting for exactly what you have to offer.
