As women, we often find ourselves in seasons of transition. For Jana, becoming an empty nester was the catalyst for a whole new beginning. She never expected to find a calling in the virtual assistant (VA) world—but that’s exactly what happened when she stepped into an internship with the Virtual Assistant Advantage program.
In a recent interview for the Virtual Assistant Advantage YouTube channel, I had the joy of sitting down with Jana, one of my former interns turned virtual assistants, to talk about her inspiring journey. Her story is a beautiful reminder that it’s never too late to step into something new.
A New Beginning
Jana shared that she stumbled across the internship opportunity through a friend’s post on social media. At the time, she was in a period of transition—unsure of what was next, but open to where God might lead her. When she discovered the VA internship program, something clicked. The thought of working from home, using her administrative skills, and learning something new sparked excitement.
But like many of us, Jana battled fear.
“I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into,” she admitted, “but I kept feeling like the Lord was nudging me.”
With courage and faith, she applied and was accepted into the internship program.
Learning, Growing, and Gaining Confidence
Through the internship, Jana was introduced to a wide variety of VA tasks—everything from scheduling social media content to email marketing and managing online platforms. Though some of the technology was new, she leaned in and learned as much as she could.
“The biggest thing I walked away with was confidence,” she shared. “I learned that I could do this.”
Jana also decided to take the Virtual Assistant Advantage course to continue building her skills. She said the course helped solidify her desire to move forward in the VA world and gave her practical tools to succeed.
Finding Her Niche
When I asked Jana what services she enjoys the most, she lit up talking about email marketing and social media scheduling—two key areas she now focuses on in her VA work.
She also talked about the value of niching down, something she’s still exploring. Like many new VAs, she’s learning that clarity comes with experience.
Encouragement for Other Women
Jana’s message to women who may be considering becoming a virtual assistant?
“Don’t let fear hold you back. If you feel like this is something God is calling you to, take the next step. Just try. You’re never too old to start something new.”
Jana is living proof that with a willing heart, a supportive mentor, and a little faith, you can pursue meaningful work—no matter your age or stage of life.
