The Solution: Keep Moving Forward

The best way to conquer imposter syndrome is to show up and keep going. Take daily steps to grow your business—show up, serve your clients, share your expertise, and make yourself available. Remember, this applies to most things, not just your VA business, but many aspects of your life. It ultimately comes down to the fact that it is not about you. The key shift? Recognizing that it’s not about you.

Rick Warren’s The Purpose-Driven Life starts with the sentence: “It’s not about you.” This world has so many different things going on, and God made every one of us with a purpose and a plan; he has a place in this world for you to serve. And if that is as a virtual assistant, you’re in a service-based business. Therefore, you are serving clients day in and day out. If you focus on that particular piece, the service, or the fact that you are serving them and doing things for them that help them to move forward in their businesses, then you will see that the imposter syndrome in your head will begin to fade away.

Through Faith: Renewing Your Mind

It does come down to a biblical principle of renewing your mind. There is a verse in Romans that I want to share. I believe that this is exactly what you need for this particular situation. This verse states, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” Romans 12:2 This verse emphasizes the importance of actively changing our thinking to align with God’s will. How does this play into your business? Here’s the thing. If you feel like an imposter and like you cannot do this, you are focusing on yourself.

Call-to-Action: Step Out of Self-Doubt

You need to turn that around, renew your thoughts, change your thinking pattern, and consider how you are serving and can continue to serve those clients or those who will one day become your clients. If you are focused on yourself, you will feel like an impostor. The more you concentrate on how God wants you to show up and how He wants you to serve, the less you will feel like an imposter. That’s how you overcome imposter syndrome. I hope this encourages you!
