Growth and Adaptability
At Virtual Assistant Advantage, we believe in nurturing talent and supporting those who are passionate about learning and growing in the virtual assistant field. Today, we’re excited to officially welcome Carrie to our team! Carrie first joined us as an intern about six to eight months ago, and her dedication, adaptability, and strong administrative background quickly became evident. She has always enjoyed working in supportive roles and spent years in the federal government before shifting gears to homeschool her children. During that time, she immersed herself in blogging, created multiple blogs, and continuously expanded her skill set. Then life took unexpected turns for Carrie, but throughout it all, she remained focused on discovering her next path. Her resilience and eagerness to learn make her a valuable addition to our team. We’re excited to see the impact she will make as she steps into this new role!

A Career with Flexibility and Purpose
One of the best aspects of working in this field is the flexibility it provides, especially for mothers. Many of our team members, including me, share a common experience of homeschooling, which makes remote work even more valuable. My own journey began from a desire to work from home to be present for my children, and that continues to be my driving motivation today.
Intern to Team Member
Carrie’s journey into our team was truly providential. She felt isolated while trying to build her own business as a solopreneur and was searching for more hands-on experience. When she stumbled upon our internship opportunity in a Facebook group, she jumped at the chance to be part of a team again—and it turned out to be exactly what she needed. Through her internship, Carrie reignited her passions and skills that she hadn’t used in years. Each task she undertook reminded her of what she loved about administrative and creative work. When our existing team recognized her contributions, she realized she was ready to take the next step—from intern to team member.
The value of teamwork and collaboration. “Working alone can be isolating, which is why having a team is so important. I’ve always wanted to build a strong team because I know firsthand how fulfilling it is to collaborate with others. During my years of working solo, I briefly returned to a school setting, and the best part of that experience was having coworkers. When I transitioned back to remote work, I knew I wanted to create a team that could provide that same connection. One of my favorite aspects of working with a team is communication; we use Slack to stay connected, making it feel like we have coworkers with whom we interact daily. That sense of belonging is invaluable,” said Carrie.
Each team member brings something special to the table. Carrie, for example, has strong copywriting skills that make her stand out. I always encourage those looking to start their virtual assistant business to focus on the skills they already possess. Many people believe they lack marketable skills, but that’s rarely the case. Everyone has talents—they just need to recognize and apply them in the right way.
Discovering and Developing Your Skills
One of the most important aspects of building a successful career is identifying the skills you already possess—and discovering the ones that truly excite you. It’s not just about what you’re capable of doing, but also about what you actually enjoy. In my course, I guide individuals through an exercise that helps them recognize their marketable skills. It starts with a list of over 300 skills. First, you mark the ones you can do, and then go back to highlight those you genuinely enjoy. The key is to focus on work that aligns with both ability and passion; otherwise, burnout can creep in quickly. I learned that lesson the hard way early in my career. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. That realization shaped my philosophy: pursue work that excites you and brings fulfillment.
Growth Through Trust and Creativity
Carrie’s experience as an intern was transformative. She started in a slump, unsure of her next steps, but the trust she received in this role allowed her creativity to flourish. Being part of the team reignited her passions and gave her the confidence to embrace her talents. I review applications carefully, pray for guidance, and trust that God leads me to the right person, even if they don’t appear to be the most qualified on paper. Advice for New Virtual Assistants
Carrie’s Exciting Future
She’s developing her copywriting skills with our team while pursuing certifications in bookkeeping and tax preparation—keeping her passions alive! One of the biggest surprises for Carrie since becoming a virtual assistant is how much it has restored her belief in herself. She realized she could do this—and do it well. We all need that reminder sometimes. Even I have moments of doubt when I wonder, ” What am I doing? ” Why am I scared? ” But pushing through those feelings leads to growth.
Carrie, thank you for sharing your journey with us. I’m thrilled that you’re officially joining the team, and I appreciate you taking the time for this conversation.
